What is TUIC?
The Travel Unity Individual Certificate (TUIC) is a professional development and certification program preparing participants to understand and apply diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the travel industry.
TUIC-certified individuals are equipped with the knowledge to address the needs of diverse visitors and colleagues. The curriculum is aligned with Travel Unity’s DEI Standards for Travel & Tourism.
Who is TUIC for?
The Travel Unity Individual Certificate (TUIC) is designed for early- and mid-career travel professionals and students interested in careers in the travel industry.

Professionals working in the travel and tourism industry who want to learn more about DEI
TUIC Curriculum
The Travel Unity Individual Certificate (TUIC) consists of three components:
- Three videos, featuring Travel Unity’s staff and expert network – Travel Unity and the Travel Industry, DEI Terms and Concepts, and DEI in the Travel Industry
- One live, virtual interactive session, facilitated by Vandana Agrawal and David Naczycz, CDTP
- Reflections and quizzes on content from the videos and live session

REPRESENTATION AND DIVERSIFICATION
People need to see others with similar identities to feel like they would also be welcome. Associations can have current members self-identify to better understand the true diversity within their ranks. Once they know the actual demographics, they can then do more to create viable partnerships to invite individuals from previously underrepresented groups.
Even with successful recruitment, diversity of membership and staff can only be maintained with empowering and listening to varied perspectives.
Yet, boards of travel industry associations cannot be diverse if their membership is not diverse. Since membership comes from the broader travel industry, the pool of members is limited by the overall diversity of travel industry professionals. Therefore, it is imperative for travel industry associations to consistently engage with initiatives that will diversify their boards, membership, and the broader travel industry.
