Modules

Module 1: Travel Unity and the Travel Industry

Learn about the travel industry - its economic, social, and environmental impact on the world, along with the work Travel Unity does to help make the world of travel welcoming to people of all backgrounds and abilities.

Module 2: DEI Terms and Concepts

An introduction to DEI concepts - from empathy vs. sympathy, to what the 'D', 'E', and 'I' actually mean in practice (and what differentiates DEI from DEIB from DEIJ from JEDI), equity vs. equality, and an array of terms on race and ethnicity, sexual and gender identity, and historical and present examples of inequity in and outside the world of travel.

Module 3: DEI in the Travel Industry

This module connects the DEI topics from the prior session and applies them to the various sectors of the travel industry. Also covered are case studies of personal experiences of travelers and professionals from a variety of backgrounds and identities.

Module 4: Identity, Bias, and Lived Experiences

It is one thing to read about DEI online; it's another to practice it in real life. This module goes into detail on how DEI-related matters can come about in the day-to-day of a job in the travel industry. This session also covers biases and intersecting identities. Through small group breakouts, participants learn first-hand that even while we might seem similar on the surface, there are key aspects of identity that affect how we perceive the world on a daily basis.
