From 2020-2022, Travel Unity convened a group of travel industry associations to discuss with one another how to best implement DEI into association operations.

The Travel Industry Association DEI Pledge, a road map for implementing DEI into organizations, came from this work.

Associations now engage with Travel Unity through the Travel Unity Alliance and through other forums.

At the International Tour Management Institute (ITMI), we believe, it is our responsibility within our training programs to educate tour directors, tour guides and other travel professionals that human diversity is an asset to be treasured. As we travel the world, whether individually or collectively, we can be the bridge, the change makers and make a positive impact to enrich lives. Our understanding / knowledge of history, cultures and traditions help transform personal belief systems and promote choices in support of global harmony.

We embrace our collaborative relationship with Travel Unity to further collective efforts with like organizations to facilitate constructive dialogue, related to diversity, equity, and justice for ourselves and future generations.

“At the National Tour Association, you’ll hear us often say, “Together, we go further.” NTA recognizes that our community is part of the global community and that by working together, we will raise one another up.

As we work harder to better reflect this global community and address a diverse set of needs, we look forward to working with Travel Unity and the DEI working group.

This work will help NTA and our members truly embrace and exemplify the intrinsic value of travel, further empowering our goals of opening minds, connecting cultures, and broadening horizons.”

“STS is committed to being a more diverse and inclusive association, in regards to our leadership, membership, and programming. It is time for us all to take both leadership and action in advocating for change. We are looking forward to our relationship with Travel Unity and the DEI Working Group while we address how we continue to develop and promote tourism in our communities.”

“As two organizations focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Tourism Diversity Matters is proud to partner with Travel Unity. By working together, we can further our reach to educate, advocate, engage and empower in collaboration and cooperation with all industry initiatives.”

As an organization that trains and supports tour guides and travel entrepreneurs, TripSchool sees both the impact that travel makes on individuals and society, and also the challenges our industry has in many areas, including diversity.

Through our own Diversity Project and partnerships with organizations like Travel Unity, we hope that these collaborations will lead to collective actions that create meaningful change in the way we understand our jobs, from the tour guide sharing more diverse stories with their group to the hiring and market practices of companies and organizations.

We applaud Travel Unity for bringing together key players all tackling these issues from different perspectives, and are excited to be part of this group.
