Global Scholars Program

Travel Unity’s Global Scholars Program (GSP) is a 4-module leadership program, training students to become ambassadors for Travel Unity in their local communities.

How it Works

About us

GSP brings young participants (ages 14-18) together virtually for cultural exchange and exposure to both travel overall and the various sectors of the travel industry.


Through GSP, participants learn about the travel industry and core DEI concepts while connecting with peers from across the country, meeting industry professionals and participating in professional development opportunities.

Global Scholar Program Modules

Global Scholars consists of 4 modules: Discover, Explore,  Develop, and Lead.

Module One: Discover

In the Discover Module, Global Scholars learn about the work of Travel Unity, the multitude of jobs in the travel industry, basics on diversity, equity, & inclusion (DEI), and get exposure to professionals in the industry.


After completing Module 1, participants will receive a certificate as a milestone in achieving their Global Scholars recognition.


Module Two: Explore

In the Explore Module, Global Scholars continue to learn about the work of Travel Unity, the multitude of jobs in the travel industry, basics on diversity, equity, & inclusion (DEI), and get exposure to professionals in the industry. Students prepare to take the TUIC certification exam. 


After completing Module 2, participants will receive a certificate as a milestone in achieving their Global Scholars recognition. In addition, students will be able to qualify to receive their TUIC, if they complete the certification exam (optional).

Module Three: Develop



In the third module, Global Scholars learn and develop their leadership skills including public speaking, networking, presentations skills, how to run a meeting and prepare a plan to run their own local chapters.


After completing Module 3, participants will receive a certificate as a milestone in achieving their Global Scholars recognition.

Module Four: Lead

In the final module of the Global Scholar Program, participants are supported in their work to create and manage local Travel Unity chapters. They are connected to mentors and craft a community-based project to apply Travel Unity’s work to their local communities.


After completing Module 4, participants will receive their Program Completion Certificate and be recognized as a Travel Unity Global Scholar.

  • What does it mean to achieve recognition as a Travel Unity Global Scholar?

    Being a Travel Unity Global Scholar means you understand the travel industry, its sectors, and the roles within it. You believe in Travel Unity’s mission of diversifying the travel industry and helping individuals understand the travel industry’s impact in local communities. Global Scholars become Travel Unity Ambassadors in your local community, helping to connect your peers with the industry and other youth around the world.


  • What is TUIC?

    The Travel Unity Individual Certificate (TUIC) is a professional development and certification program preparing participants to understand and apply diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the travel industry. TUIC-certified individuals are equipped with the knowledge to address the needs of diverse visitors and colleagues. The curriculum is aligned with Travel Unity’s DEI Standards for Travel & Tourism.   • Can I skip modules?

    No, scholars are not allowed to skip modules unless given an exception from the Program Manager or Program Director.

  • How often are modules offered?

    Modules are offered every season. Please check back every month prior to a season change to see what’s being offered next. Each cohort has limited seats so apply as soon as you can. The higher the module, the fewer seats are available. 


  • How long do modules last?

    Each module is around 4 weeks long. But there is a one day Module offered each season once. 

  • Do I need to complete all modules?

    It’s encouraged to complete all modules, as colleges love to see consistency on your resume. We will be here to help you if you need a special accommodation to complete. Although encouraged, scholars can leave the program at any point by sending an email to tuyac@travelunity.org

  • Can I skip meetings and/or call out?

    You are only allowed to miss one meeting/week when enrolled into a cohort. If you are out more than one or don’t communicate when missing a meeting, you will be removed from the cohort. You are welcome to redo the module when it is offered next. 


  • Can the meetings count as community service hours? Will they be tracked?

    Yes! Meetings will be tracked as community service hours. Hours will be tracked and readily available upon request to youth@travelunity.org


  • Where do meetings happen?

    All meetings will be virtual through Zoom. Please be sure to have the latest version downloaded for meetings.


  • Are cameras and audio required?

    Cameras and microphones are required, unless you have a prior exception approved by the Program Manager or Program Director. This is to ensure you can properly network with other youth and we know you are attentive at the meetings.


  • Can you make any special accommodations for students and/or students with disabilities?

    Yes! Please email tuyac@travelunity.org for any accommodation needs.
